Evaluation of Seismic Image Quality - part II: Assessment of Velocity Models

چکیده
Introduction If we assume that the correct migration algorithm has been used (see part I), errors in seismic images may still be present due to errors in the underlying velocity model. The standard way of detecting velocity errors is to search for misalignments in image gathers. However, the low signal-to-noise ratio of image gathers may make the analysis difficult. Image gathers from CFP gathers have the significant advantage that each member trace involves the contribution of many Fresnel zones and therefore has a relatively high signal content.

Prediction model of limestone rock mass quality, using seismic wave velocity (Case study: Sarvak formation in Bakhtiari dam site)
The purpose of this study was to develop a model for the estimation of rock mass classification of Sarvak limestone in the Bakhtiari dam site, south-west (SW) Iran. Q system had been used as the starting point for the rock mass classification. This method was modified for sedimentary rock mass which is known as Qsrm. Because Qsrm considers a wide range of rock mass propert...
متن کاملDepth Characterization of Shallow Aquifers with Seismic Reflection, Part II—Prestack Depth Migration and Field Examples
It is common in shallow seismic studies for the compressional-wave velocity in unconsolidated sediments to increase by a factor of four or more at the transition from dry or partial water saturation to full saturation. Under these conditions, conventional NMO velocity analysis fails and leads to large depth and layer thickness estimates if the Dix equation is assumed valid. Prestack depth migra...
متن کاملEfficiency of seismic wave velocity and electrical resistivity in estimation of limestone rock mass quality indices (Q, Qsrm) (Case study: Asmari formation, SW Iran)
In this research, the relationship between P-wave velocity (Vp) and Electrical Resistivity (ER) parameters with rock mass quality indices is investigated; parameters such as rock mass quality classification (Q) and modified system for sedimentary rocks, known as Qsrm. For making predictive models, about 1200 data-sets extracted from sections drilled in Seymareh and Karun 2 Dam Sites (SDS and KD...
متن کاملSeismic Damage Assessment of RC Buildings Subjected to the Rotational Ground Motion Records Considering Soil-Structure Interaction
The significance of the seismic rotational components have been overlooked in the seismic evaluation of structural behavior. As researchers have measured seismic components more accurately using sensitive rotational velocity sensor, it was observed that the magnitude of rotational components is considerable and could not be neglected. Hence, some parts of seismic damage or failure of structures...
متن کاملQuality Assessment of Turfgrasses Using NTEP Method Compared to an Image-Based Scoring System
The current methods of turfgrass evaluations are often based on human-based assessment methods. However, eliminating subjective errors from such evaluations is often impossible. This research compared the accuracy of human-based and digital image processing-based methods for quality assessment of turfgrasses. Four turfgrass plots were evaluated using the two mentioned methods. In the human-base...
